Welcome to Motor Cities
Fox Terrier Club

Hal Wainwright, a founding member and past treasurer of the MCFTC passed away December 24, 2008.  Hal bred and raised quality smooth and wire fox terriers and with his wife Carol, founded the Halcar Kennel over 40 years ago. Halcar Kennel’s produced over 100 smooth and wire fox terrier champions. Hal also showed both smooth and wire fox terriers and judged at A and B terrier matches. As MCFTC founding members Hal and his wife Carol hosted many club events through the years.  His wonderful sense of humor, dedication to the breed and commitment to the club will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Having fun with our terriers is what it’s all about!!!

Motor Cities Fox Terrier Club offers regular events for fun, training, competition, education and community service.  When the weather breaks you will see our dogs kicking up the dust and dirt, frolicking in the field, and taking to the competition rings.

In 2009 MCFTC has lots of activities planned including:

Terrier Races at DKC show Saturday February 28th and Sunday March 1st at Cobo Convention Center in Detroit, MI.

Annual AKC Earth Dog Tests in August - Earn 2 legs in the same day, at our 1 day event

Wire and Smooth Fox Terrier Specialty and Sweepstakes, Friday, September 25th at Monroe Co. Fairgrounds.

MCFTC actively participates in agility, earthdog, obedience, conformation, therapy dog visits, terrier racing and other fun events. In addition, we also have a variety of social gatherings throughout the year.

If you would like to join us or learn more about having fun with your terrier contact MCFTC at:  motorcitiesfoxterrierclub@yahoo.com   We offer one year, honorary memberships to all new Fox Terrier Keepers purchased from a member breeder.

Tips for Purchasing a Purebred Companion

Text Box: 1.	Call your local Kennel Club, the American Kennel Club, or your Veterinarian for a list of reputable breeders in your area.

2.	Educate yourself about the breed that you are interested in!

3.	Visit more than one breeder and compare!

4.	Be suspicious if the breeder is involved with more than two breeds!

5.	Ask to see one or more of the parents and possibly the grandparents. Or pictures of the grandparents. Good breeders love showing off their dogs.

6.	Consider purchasing an adult or retired show dog. They are usually less expensive, fully inoculated and over puppyhood.

7.	A carefully screened rescue dog is a good alternative.

8.	Ask about health guarantees and possible inherited defects. All breeds have them.

9.	Be sure the breeder agrees to have your own vet check out the puppy or adult within two days.

10.	Be sure the breeder is willing and able to help you with any problems that might arise.

11.	Be prepared as a responsible pet owner, to have your new pet spayed or neutered.

12.	Stay away from pet shops and puppy mills! For more info on puppy mills http://www.kimtownsend.com/whatisapuppymill.html

???? Did you know  ????

AKC registration only guarantees that the dogs are purebred; it is not a guarantee of quality.  Not all breeders have your best interests, or the interest of their breed, at heart.  There are generally three types of breeders: The wholesale breeder (pet shops, puppy mills), the backyard breeder and the responsible and ethical breeder. So just because your purebred dog “has papers” it only means it came from parents that were AKC purebred mates of the same breed, not a 15 year warranty.  Your best guarantee is to educate yourself about the breed you want and to find a responsible breeder.
